Mining engineers apply science, geoscience, engineering and technology to the efficient exploration and extraction of minerals from the earth, turning raw materials into valuable products. Minerals are a major component of all manufacturing and construction, and the demand for precious metals and minerals will continue into the future. Students will study a common first year allowing them to learn more about engineering and its different fields before deciding which discipline to study. The common first year provides students with sound fundamentals in mathematics, statistics, physics, chemistry, computing, engineering science and communication, mechanics, materials and fluids. Students then focus on their chosen major study from second year.
